Final Fantasy XIV, Zelda and Forza 4

Going Online

I’ve been playing Final Fantasy XIV a lot these days. While the game won’t topple World of WarCraft from its perch as the number one MMORPG, it’s doing enough things right to make me want to continue playing. As someone who prefers playing as DPS, my biggest gripe about it is the lack of readily available theorycrafting information, making finding the right DPS class seem like a quest on its own.

I started with a monk, ended up feeling like the effort wasn’t worth the damage output, so I then leveled a bard. Lo and behold, bards play a support role in the endgame raid. Screw that. I know some of you like playing support roles. I don’t. It’s just not my cup of tea. I then leveled a black mage. Playing one feels like bombing everything in sight. I haven’t turned my back on it yet. I mean, who doesn’t like causing explosions?

Nostalgia and Then Some

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is an interesting game. At the beginning of the game it felt like a remake of A Link to the Past but the more I got into it the more it became new. There’s enough content in it to make it a different game altogether. I’ve been using it to fill in the time while I wait for a party to form in FFXIV’s Duty Finder. On certain days I play it exclusively.

Re-evaluating Preferences

On a whim I decided to give Forza Motorsport 4 a try. I’m surprised that I’m into it. It made me think about the last time I seriously got into a racing game and I found out that the answer was way back in high school. The game was Top Gear 2 for the SNES. I’ve kind of dismissed racing games as something I liked playing since then. Now I’m thinking of picking up Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3. Maybe I’m more into racing simulators than arcade racers like Need for Speed.

Rants and Raves: Final Fantasy XIII-2

Posted by on Aug 21, 2012 in Commentary |

I have to admit that I completely ignored Final Fantasy XIII-2 the moment I learned that Lightning wasn’t going to be the lead. I found her cold, no-nonsense attitude very appealing. She was strong, determined and hell-bent on completing her mission. Her demeanor was a refreshing change from the young, male protagonists from previous titles of the series. As if not having her as the main character wasn’t bad enough, she was replaced by her sister Serah, the damsel in distress whose purpose was to merely give Lightning somebody to rescue.

Why did I buy it? Because I couldn’t pass up on a premium title that was being sold at one-third of its price. So a couple of weeks ago I found myself the owner of Final Fantasy XIII-2. I had no idea how good it was going to be back then.

Games With A Twist of Poker

Posted by on Oct 26, 2011 in Commentary |

The following is a sponsored post.

Classic poker is often featured as a mini-game in major titles that feature gambling. For example, Red Dead Redemption has an awesome poker mini-game that can be engaging on its own. The Liars and Cheats DLC expands it further by featuring multiplayer, allowing players to take their card skills online.

Other classic titles with poker references are Final Fantasy VIII’s Triple Triad, combining poker and a strategy game where you play out different cards. It is also present in social gaming communities such as Second Life and World of Warcraft. Both used to have their own poker spots but were discontinued due to players using real money to play.

Video Games and Web Comics Go Head-to-Head with Poker

Last year, poker and classic characters from games and web comics met in a crossover title called “Poker Night at the Inventory”. It features characters from games like Team Fortress 2 and Sam & Max. Tycho Brahe of Penny Arcade and Strong Bad from Homestar Runner represented their respective web series.

Final Fantasy XII: Weapons

Posted by on Jan 22, 2008 in Guides |

To continue my posts about Final Fantasy XII, I’m going to further describe my experience in getting some of the stronger weapons in the game, aside from the Tournesol.

Again, I’ll be using the same references. I will also be making references to my previous post about getting the Tournesol.
