- Needless to say, attuning to all aethernet shards in the cities is a must. Unless you enjoy running around all the time, of course.
- Aetheryte crystals in the starting cities can also function as aethernet shards.
- Setting an Aetheryte crystal as a favored destination will cut the teleport cost by half. You can set 3 at a time.
- Talk to all chocokeep NPCs that you run into so you can unlock them as destinations.
- The chocokeep NPC in the starting cities connects to all the other chocokeep NPCs that you talked to. Of course, they’re limited to their respective regions. You can’t rent a chocobo to get from Gridania to a destination in Limsa Luminsa, for example.
- The chocokeep NPCs outside of cities connect to their respective main cities and every other chocokeep NPC in the immediate area. To simplify, if the destination isn’t a staring city and it requires a map reload, you won’t be able to travel there by hiring a chocobo porter.
- Here’s a little travel trick: you can enable the option that plays the audio track when you’re mounted. Hire a chocobo porter, do whatever and come back when the mounted music fades out. You’ll know you’ve arrived by then.
- You’ll get a chance to own your personal chocobo through a level 20 main quest so keep following that main story!
- Sometimes it’s faster to travel by boat, but it can be confusing when the NPC says the name of the destination and what you’re looking for is the name of the region.
