Diablo III: Reaper of Souls was released earlier this week and I’ve been clawing my way through it with my monk. I’m saying clawing because it feels like I’m fighting for every bit of DPS that I can get, but I’m getting ahead of myself.
When I started going through the expansion content I found myself humbled. I was getting my ass kicked by regular monsters because I was using the same difficulty that I’ve grown accustomed to in vanilla D3. I took things down a notch and things generally became more manageable. I was still having trouble with certain bosses and fight mechanics but at least I wasn’t racking up a huge repair bill.
After finishing the game and getting my monk to 70 I decided to try out Adventure Mode. To summarize, it involves fulfilling five bounties in one act and then collecting the reward from Tyrael. The initial run was convincing enough for me to decide to take the difficulty down even further. I feel like there’s an emphasis to kill things fast so I can collect as many bounties as possible.
Now for the clawing part. I had 130,000 sheet DPS when I started Adventure Mode. 2 days later I’m now at 300,000. It feels great to finally be rewarded for the time and effort that I spent into game, something I never got from vanilla D3 without offering bits of my soul to the RNG gods first. I’m certainly looking forward to this weekend so I can really sink my teeth into the game and farm loot.
